Can’t Take My Eyes Off You

And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky

I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you

And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We’ll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower’s daughter
The pupil in denial

I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you

- Damien Richards, The Blower’s Daughter

Dear Angel,

Can I share this with you? Something that happened years ago, over teary-eyes on an empty bed.

A girl once told me, that one day I’ll find someone I can love, and who will love me without hurting me. She told me that when that day came and I found that someone, that I should love that girl wholeheartedly, unquestioningly.

She made me promise not to hurt that girl when I found her.

She told me to be careful with what I said to that girl, because my words had a way of cutting deeply. She told me to be careful with my promises, because I had a habit of being believable. She made me promise, that when I found that girl, to think twice, even thrice. Because I made it easy for a girl to love me.

She made me promise not to break that girl’s heart, because I could make such an impression on a girl’s life, that once we got closer, it could ruin her if we parted.

She said it pained her deeply to imagine me with that girl one day. But she would rather see me with someone who knew how to love me, someone better, than to see me suffer. She told me that love wasn’t enough, that one had to go one step farther for happiness, a step we both didn’t know how to take back then.

But when that one day came, I would know it. And when that one girl came, I would take it.

Sorry if I bored you with this. I believed what she said. I just thought I had to let you know, that one day if I found her, I would honor my promises. Without promises we’re no better than animals.

Merry Christmas, Angel. Take very good care of yourself. Try to watch my back whenever you can. And maybe a little nudge if she happened to pass nearby? Wouldn’t hurt.

Talk to me soon.
